Despite tough trading conditions, FK Construction has continued to grow over the past three years. The contractor attributes this


success to a strategic, adaptable and fl exible approach. The fi rm has worked hard to


develop its core roofi ng and cladding business, diversifying into new sectors to stay in line with its clients. From predominantly shed


projects, FK Construction now works on residential, healthcare and public schemes. It has also progressed specialist

reliance on repeat business by growing its client list every year, while increasing the profi tability it achieves from regular clients. In 2011, FK invested more than


£20,000 in building information modelling, widely seen as the future of the construction industry. It is also in the process of developing bespoke software for the building envelope sector as part of its ongoing eff orts to


provide increased productivity. Safety is a priority. As well as


Building Confi dence and Safe Contractor accreditations, the entire workforce is CSCS-approved and NVQ-qualifi ed. It had a 100 per cent safety record across all construction projects during 2011 with no reportable accidents. FK has a maximum of three


supply chain partners per discipline and holds an annual supply chain conference, as well as regular supplier days. A cost management system allows it to process orders effi ciently and provide clients with certainty on budgets and delivery. The contractor guarantees


30-day payment terms with its supply chain. At the beginning of each year, it renegotiates a service level agreement with plant equipment suppliers. FK Construction reached a


turnover of £28.5m in 2011 – a rise of £4.5m in a year. It recorded a 10 per cent increase in profi ts over the same period, while the number of employees has increased fourfold over three years.
