The Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation formed in 2004 as an affiliate of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.
The catalyst was the offer of $2 million from the community foundation’s Argyle Fund for a 1:2 match if $4 million in donations was raised for a new Eastern Shore community foundation. The challenge was successful, and today there are 30 permanent Eastern Shore funds managed by the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.
