Josey Students Capture the World during the 19th annual Josey Reunion

dents, 453 from 22 states, gathered at the Josey Ranch in Marshall, Texas to run for the title of Josey Reunion Champion and $72,950 in cash prizes. More than 5,000 spectators gathered May 4-6 to enjoy the toughest ever 19th annual Josey Reunion 4D Barrel Race. Each of the 453 con- testants had 2 qualifying runs on Friday and Sat- urday earning cash prizes with the prestigious 120 top times in the 1D, 2D, 3D and 4D qualified for the prestigious short go-round finals. 40 con- testants took home many, many prizes and lots of money. In the Top 120 Clean Slate Finals, starting


from the slowest to the fastest, thirteen-year-old Raelee Self of Powderly, TX was the last to ride on Sunday. She took a deep breath and captured the 1D championship with a time of 16.024 atop I'm Shy and Freckled. Raelee took home cash prizes totaling $3,168.84 and won a beautiful Big Tex/CM Trailer, a Martha Josey Ultimate Trophy Saddle by Circle Y, a Bob Berg Championship Buckle and many other prizes. Susan Frith of Thomasville, AL won the 2D


title with a 16.559 on Rasin Pay to win a total of $1,634.09, and Courtney Arnold of Hinesville, GA took the 3D honor with a 17.030 while rid- ing Holme Town Mark winning $1,283.89, all winning Circle Y Saddles and Bob Berg Cham- pionship belt buckles. Marshall's own Kaitlyn Woodman won the


4D event atop I Am Dunn and Lucky with a time of 18.028 to win $744.09 as well as a beautiful Billy Cook trophy saddle. The Senior champion was Darlene Ferrell of


Cocoa, FL who rode CE Standing Oviation with a 16.646 to win a Billy Cook saddle while Kylee Bennett from McAlester, OK took pole bending honors atop Bubblicious with a time of 20.396 to win a Hud Roberts saddle. Numerous prizes were awarded throughout


the competition, including 11 contestants win- ning over $1,000 in cash. Thanks to Mark Burt of Mark’s Video Production, for webcasting this prestigious barrel racing action all over the world. Many great equine athletes carried their rid-


ers to victory including Devon Click and her horse, Sucha Sweet Lady ‘Scarlette’, who earned the Sonny Bit O’Both Horse With The Most Heart Award. Sonny, Martha’s horse, still holds the record of winning both the AQHA and WPRA World Championships in the same year and carried Martha to the NFR in ’78-’81.
