the business is essentially run by the two of them. Whilst Rick looks after deliveries, Victoria is in charge of bottling and labelling in what has become a thriving cottage industry. I first met the couple three years ago when they
were selling their ginger beer and elderflower sparkle drinks at the Love Food festival in Bristol. It was their first ever appearance at a market, and their products certainly created quite a buzz. Three years on and their efforts are now sold in
places like Boston Tea Party and Chandos Deli, which goes some way towards showing just how far theyÕ ve come in that time.
Ò WeÕ re still quite small and itÕ s mainly just the two
of us, but we were producing about 500-700 bottles a week when we started, and now itÕ s more like 2,500 a week,Ó Victoria tells me, rather modestly.
Ò So itÕ s grown pretty steadily in that time. When we started we were making all the drinks in an outbuilding in our garden, but we have since moved down the road to a small unit.
Ò We still use as much local produce as we
can, like Somerset apples, and we will be out picking elderflowers again this month Ð but itÕ s quite unpredictable. Last year was rather a long elderflower season, as it started early. We make it all into cordial, pasteurise it and freeze it. ItÕs always a bit nerve-wracking waiting for them to come out each year, as itÕ s one of our core products Ð and certainly one of the best-sellers!Ó This month, Lovely Drinks launches a delicious
