Woodlands Nursery
We are now in our new building and it’s been well worth the wait to have such a perfect space at Woodlands Nursery. Our open day on 26th May was fantastic and we were delighted to be able to show it off! Here are just some of the fabulous comments we received from our visitors:
“All looks fab! Staff are friendly and informative. Love the surroundings. Look forward to hopefully bringing our new baby here.” “Love the loos with

Primary 7 joined up with Inchinnan Primary this month in a wonderful outdoor, residential experience at Ardmay House, Arrochar. The sun shone brightly for the full fi ve days whilst the children took part in a wide variety of

inc luding: canoeing, weaselling, climbing and teambuilding. They made with
also friends Overton Primary in Greenock with many
pupils having exchanged details to keep in touch. The staff were fabulous. Coel McKay in Primary
7 summed up the week perfectly when her said,’ I liked the instructors. They were very nice. They showed me I can do everything if I try. I just loved the trip overall’. It is a fabulous experience for pupils, building their confi dence, preparing them for high school.
Bridge of Weir Primary School P7 had their annual residential trip to Ardentinny in May
when they took part in abseiling, hillwalking, kayaking and a whole host of other outdoor and team building activities. As both classes move on to secondary school we wish them all the best. Our senior pupils may be leaving us, but we are of course delighted to be welcoming our new entrants who start P1 in August. Children and parents came along to our three induction afternoons which let the pupils meet their new teacher and classmates whilst the adults found out a bit more about what’s involved in starting primary school. A particular “thank you” here to our P6 Buddies who went to meet the children in their nurseries and who looked after them so well during their visits to the school.
Health Week this year had an Olympics theme and over the week nursery and primary pupils had sports coaching sessions, science shows and talks on dental health as well as learning about the Olympic and Paralympic values of
friendship, respect, courage, determination, equality, excellence
and inspiration and their importance in everyday life, not just sport. We had our very own Sports Day opening ceremony which included a mini torch relay performed by our Primary 1s and a special visit from two local “sports stars”, 4th Year Gryffe High and former Bridge of Weir Primary
pupils, Euan and Gwen Gillham. The children were fascinated to hear about their training schedules, sporting achievements and ambitions and inspired them to great performances in the afternoon’s races!
Several classes were out and about this term - the nursery children visited Rouken Glen Park, P1 went to Calder Glen, P2 had a great trip to the RSPB Centre at Lochwinnoch and P6 went to hear the RSNO perform at the Royal Concert Hall.

the ladybird doors, all the wall stickers, the kids’ kitchen, the waterplay area, the gym and the deck too.” “So nice and airy. It’s wonderfully planned and it looks so welcoming - we love it! We especially love the cloak room. Well done!” “The new nursery is lovely, bright and spacious. I love the open plan feel and immediate access to the outside areas which are safe and secure. The lovely view of the forest through all the windows makes this a wonderfully calm place for our child.”
Due to our increased capacity we have a limited number of 3 to 5 year old partnership only places available for the new term in August. Please call 01505 613134 to register your interest, spaces will be allocated on a fi rst come basis.
June has been bursting with exciting topics to stimulate the children.
For the Jubilee, we made our own bunting, decorated the nursery with streamers and made our own crowns to wear at our Tea garden party.
The children have been showing their creative fl air and letting their artistic sides out making cards for Father’s Day. We asked the children to draw a picture of their dads, and a few of the portraits were uncanny in their likeness!

The ceremony will be on 21st June at The Carrick Centre which is always a momentous and emotional occasion.
The Out of School boys and girls have been enjoying fi tness sessions on Wednesday afternoons. We have hired local Personal Trainer and fi tness coach Peter Kennedy from The Project to put the children through their paces with team sports such as rounders, football and basketball. The children love these sessions and are having so much fun without realising they’re keeping fi t and active at the same time.
With the school holidays just around the corner we are taking bookings for our holiday club and the boys and girls are helping us plan our summer activities and trips. If you would like to discuss a holiday club place, please speak to Vicki on 01505 613134.
