St Columba’s School Charity Walk
Pupils and staff took part in a sponsored walk along the cycle track as part of Health & Wellbeing Week. The walk was to raise money for the Beatson Oncology Unit in support of our Senior Janitor, Mr George Walton, who is currently undergoing treatment there. Mr Walton,
who has worked at
St Columba’s for more than 20 years, asked us to support the unit as he is so appreciative of all the care and assistance they are currently giving him. We are delighted to have received £6931.80 in sponsorship money so far. Thank you to everyone who supported this very worthy cause.
Silver Tablet
Clare Eagle has won the Silver Tablet. Clare, Melissa Meighan, Rebecca Anderson and Luca Hlaing all competed for the prestigious award at a concert held in St Columba Church. The adjudicator, Ms Palma Allan, was impressed by the complex programme each of the contestants performed. Clare was presented with her prize by Councillor David Wilson.
Roman Visitor
Junior 4 welcomed Gaius Julius Promethius Miccinius - a Roman Centurion – to St Columba’s. The children learned all about Roman armour, weapons, food and cooking, but perhaps the highlight was learning to march like Roman legionaries with all the commands being given in Latin! Sports Day at Langbank Playgroup
Sports Day was a huge success with 15 children participating with great enthusiasm and a wonderfully noisy bunch of supporters in the background. We had the running race, beanbag on the head, work your way out of a hoop and the very taxing egg and spoon, not forgetting the little siblings who were a force to be reckoned with. It was the day of the Olympic Torch coming locally so we began with a Torch procession and these masterpieces were made with the fantastic help of the Langbank Primary buddies a couple of weeks earlier. Our
medals showed the Torch and were engraved with the date so a wonderful keepsake for all the families. Earlier in the day, we enjoyed a “packed lunch” snack to help prepare the pre-schoolers for lunch at school and this provided a bit of a challenge in terms of unwrapping a sandwich and fi nding a straw for your juice carton. We wish all our pre-school children and families the very best of luck for the transition and look forward to welcoming everybody else and some new faces back on Fri 17th August. St Columba Church Toddler and Playgroup
Firstly thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed our end of term fundraiser at Beanscene and thanks also to everyone who donated the great raffl e prizes which helped us to raise over £250 for the Playgroup and Toddler group!
At Playgroup we worked hard on our Olympic Torches and they looked wonderful as the children strode around the hall with them to open our Sports Day. We had a brilliant morning as 15 children participated with no hesitation and it was great to see their enthusiasm and smiles. Well done to all the families for getting the team colours correct and for coming in to support us. We also had a wonderful visit from the Fire Service who let us try on their equipment and clamber on board the appliance. Visits to the Kilmacolm Library were also good fun and educational and who could forget the visits from Pecky the chicken and Maggie the dog. Our fantastic Playleaders, Mrs Birch and Mrs Gailey, are now on a well deserved Summer break but Playgroup is back on Monday 27th August with lots more going on!
