SPOT THE DELIBERATE MISTAKE Yes, we do make mistakes from time to time. Two readers called in last month to tell us that our article on page 5, regarding the days in the month of July, contained errors. Although no-one called in to tell us that we had an error in Kingsley Wood’s front page advert. Sorry Kingsley! Maybe we should have a “spot the error” monthly competition?

this month....

SMASHING AT BERNIE’S Bridge of Weir Gala Queen Iona Bernacchi, with her attendants Andie Rankin and Seonaid McPhee, visited Bernie’s Cafe Deli on Sunday 10th June as part of the Gala Week celebrations. The Cafe was very busy with lots of children coming along to enjoy the special Gala Sundae ice creams. Bernie’s windows are a favoured sitting spot for everyone, especially mums and children. Fortunately the vandalised window was repaired in time for the big day; how thoughtless some are!

PHOTOS We have been sent a number of photos this month. Some are of the Olympic Flame Relay which travelled through Lochwinnoch and Kilmacolm on its route around the country. We also have pictures of local lass, Lesley Finn, who carried the fl ame in Sunderland.

We received a disk full of photos of Bridge of Weir Gala Day - so many to choose from! We’ve put a few in this issue and hope to bring you some more next month with news from the event.

Another well-attended event was Gala Day at Bishopton. Again, too many photos to put them all in.

We will have reports and photos from these events on our website.

WASTE COLLECTIONS Changes are underway. Following a successful trial in 2008, food waste collections will be starting in Inverclyde (see page 31) and in Renfrewshire residents are being sent new bin-collection calendars as the Council’s waste and recycling collection service will switch from the current Monday to Friday arrangements to a seven-day operation (see page 10).

BLOOD DONATIONS While we’re all looking forward to heading off on our holidays, please spare a thought to give blood if you can; the summer months are always down on donors. The Blood Donation Service needs 65,000 new donors to donate this year - if you’ve never given, or haven’t given in a while, search for your nearest donation opportunity at www.scotblood.co.uk
