I was delighted to attend Lilias Day again this year and it really was a fi rst class event for the village and an excellent family day out. I for one would like to publicly thank the Lilias Day Committee for all their tireless work and dedication which makes this local event possible every year, they are a credit to Kilbarchan and deserve recognition for what they do in an age when sadly public service for its own sake seems to be a dirty word.
As Councillor it was stimulating to attend the last meeting of Kilbarchan Community Council and meet similarly community minded people. I have taken away many of the issues they raised with me, from blocked drains to transport issues, and have directed them to the Council offi cers. In relation to bus provision in both Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch I have had a meeting with the Area Manager for McGill’s and this is an ongoing dialogue which I hope will be benefi cial for both villages.
As well as assisting the Old Library in Kilbarchan with identifying and accessing possible sources of funding for them, I have been very involved over the six weeks in supporting the plans by Kilbarchan Community Nursery to provide out of school care for children in the P1 to P3 age group. The Community Nursery have put their case to Renfrewshire Council and I have been lobbying on their behalf to ensure that Kilbarchan parents and families have maximum choice regarding out of school care.
It has been a very busy month for Lochwinnoch too which represented the whole of Renfrewshire in welcoming the Olympic Torch. It seemed as if the whole of the village had turned out to greet Johnstone runner, Natalie Still, and hopefully the local traders and businesses did well on the day too. There were many people there from outside Lochwinnoch and it was a great chance to showcase the village to a wider audience.
On the evening of the Olympic visit my wife and I enjoyed the Lochwinnoch International Aid Ceilidh which was a brilliant family event and a very good cause too. Members of Lochwinnoch Community Council did their best with my dancing as my strip the willow was somewhat rusty. The McKillop Institute was shaking by the end of the night and hopefully this worthy charity made substantial amounts of money.
I very much want to make myself available to local residents in Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch, and indeed across the whole ward, and my Kilbarchan advice surgery is on the second Wednesday of the month, excluding July, at 8:00pm in the Steeple Hall, and my Lochwinnoch advice surgery is on the fourth Wednesday of the month, excluding July, at 8pm in the McKillop Institute. Please come and see me if you have any issues you wish to raise, or alternately call me on 07534 148224, or e-mail me at
