The support we have received from everyone involved right from the very start of this has been absolutely amazing, a true display of community spirit at its best. Once again our many thanks.

Bridge of Weir has been a real hive of activity! I spent a couple of hours on a Saturday morning in May helping with a village clean up, organised by the dedicated and enthusiastic members and volunteers of ‘Brighter Bridge of Weir’. I think the volunteers made quite an impact, when I left there were in excess of 20 black bin bags of rubbish - I’m sure that number grew! The splendid planters and tubs of fl owers appearing around the centre of the village, are also thanks to Brighter Bridge of Weir - well done.

The fun event hosted by Freeland Church on Sunday 20th May at the Moss Rd Park was a success and the sun shone! As it also did for Bridge of Weir Gala day on Saturday the 9th of June. What a feat of organisation! Everything went very well, the Gala queen with her two attendants were delightful and the all the children taking part in the parade, were dressed beautifully. The cars and shop windows were fun. Along with everyone else who attended, I had a great time and I would like to thank the organising committee!

Back to reality - I can advise those villagers, who raised with me the issue of street lighting in some parts being on for 24 hours a day, that this is a Scottish Power fault problem. I am assured that they know about this and have it “in hand”. It is not a cost to Council Tax payers, which is a relief, but I hope they deal with it soon.

In Langbank there was good news that the access path at the top of Middlepenny Rd/Place had indeed been adopted by the Council - hopefully the fl ooding issue caused by the blocked drain will be avoided in future, as responsibility for maintenance is now clear. I am working to help the Community Council pursue issues in relation to clearing overgrown weeds and nettles around pathways, various pothole repairs and white lining, where it needs replaced or refreshed in and around the village.

I held my fi rst ever surgery, in Bishopton - it was quiet, but I have had several queries from Bishopton residents about a range of issues, most of which, I am glad to say have been satisfactorily resolved.

I will not have surgeries in July or August, but I can still be reached by email at cllr.maria.brown@renfrewshire.gov.uk also by phone 0300 300 1259.

Surgeries resume in September: Bridge of Weir - 1st Tuesday of the month at the Cargill Hall (6.30pm-7pm) Bishopton - 2nd Wednesday of the month at Bishopton Community Library (6.15pm - 6.45pm) Langbank - 2nd Wednesday of the month at Langbank Village Hall (7pm-7.30pm).
