Bridge of Weir Family Winners
The Newman family from Bridge of Weir were winners at the Houston Show in June. Cara Newman (6) and her brother James (4)
won their respective classes of ‘Lead Rein Pony’ and
both
‘Fancy Dress’. Cara then went on to win Reserve Champion with their pony ‘Lottie’.
Well done to both of them.
Langbank Bridge Club howwood & elderslie
I recently spent the morning helping prepare for Howwood Village fete. Not that I was much use I’m more X factor than Krypton factor when it comes to the skills needed to put up stalls. The weather was awful in the morning but an hour before the fete started it seemed to dry up.
that after all the hard work by so many people much of the success of the day depends on one thing we can’t control the West of Scotland weather.
I was invited to attend what has become a regular event the Houston Boys Club/Johnstone Burgh Boys Club football tournament at the home of Johnstone Burgh Keanie Park. It was great to see so many local kids involved and also the number of coaches who help and train these kids. They all seemed to be having a great time and hopefully some will go on to have careers in the game.
Sport is just about to get a boost in the area with the opening of the new facility at Johnstone High School. My views on the pool are well known but a major improvement is the new synthetic pitch which I hope local teams and youngsters get good use of the pitch as well as the pupils of the school.
Now that the Post Offi ce in the village has moved across the road, we seem to be suffering some traffi c problems. I have contacted the roads department about this to see what can be done to improve things. It is a real boost to the village to have kept the post offi ce and to have the shop and pharmacy but we have to ensure that the area is as safe as possible for pedestrians as well car users. I will update you on progress on that particular issue .
Not far from the village along the Beith Road, there is a Planning application to build around 60 houses at the old Fordbank House. Keep your eyes open for that and there is an exhibition of the plans at Cochrane Castle Community Hall at Burns Drive Johnstone on the 11th July between 12.30pm and 7pm so go along and see what is planned.
On the 18th of June there was a meeting held to decide on several grant applications from local Howwood groups. I will update you in the next edition of the Advertizer. I have no surgeries during July but my next one at the village hall is on the 23rd August . A bit away so feel free to contact me at any time. Until next time enjoy the summer !!!!
