A client who needed a new wireless router contacted me last month as their own ISP supplied one had packed in. I recommended that they ask their internet provider for a new one first before buying a new one supplied by myself. This can be worth a punt, as the provider is happy to keep a customer on their books for the cost of a wireless router, the caveat being a renewed contract, locking you in to their service provision. However, my client told me that he had already tried to call his provider and was told that a new router would cost £90, with no mention of contract extension. When he pressed the issue he was told that he was in the middle of a three year term which he agreed to over the phone. As he could recall, his contract began with his old router, all of 5 years ago.
It transpired that he was called by his supplier 18 months ago; the call had a courteous nature to it, asking how he found the service etc. before asking him if he would be happy to stay with the provider for a further 3 years. He agreed, not knowing that the recorded call was going to be played back to him as proof of his acceptance of the contract a year and a half later!
I have heard of this only a few times, probably because we all just carry on regardless with our internet providers. My advice is to exert what little leverage you have by declining the kind invitation to extend your service contract with your ISP, or at least
wangle a new router or cheaper tariff out of them if you do.

Gillian Reith told the Advertizer, “Having started our careers in ‘grown up’ office jobs, we have gradually all escaped the shackles of our soulless desk jobs and found our way into the helter skelter world of the hospitality industry where we decided to open our very own food business.”
“This event is FREE but of course, we would want you to enjoy your surroundings and indulge in the delicious food created, enjoying a full breakfast or just a passing cup of coffee! And if you have kids, please feel very free to bring them along.”
“Although we can’t have products on show, please bring along business cards or anything you use to help promote your business. As this is a new event, I’d also appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have.”
