Gala Days
June saw a number of local gala days and shows taking place in the Renfrewshire North and West Constituency including those in Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Houston. A lot of hard work and effort goes into arranging these events and I would like to congratulate everyone that is involved in making them a success.
In Bridge of Weir, the gala, which is part of Bridge of Weir’s Festival Week, is always extremely well attended and a fun free day out for all the family. This year well over 2,000 went along to Houston Road Park with many more gathering to participate or watch the parade and in other events during the week. The Bridge of Weir Festival Committee works all year to raise funds and organise the week, highlighting that community spirit is alive and well.
“Yes”
I was proud to take part in the historic debate and vote which saw the Scottish Parliament vote in favour of Scotland becoming an independent country.
This campaign will be the biggest community campaign Scotland has ever seen as people from all political parties and none come together to promote a Yes vote in the Scottish Referendum in 2014. I will of course be doing my part in encouraging people to sign up to the declaration for Scotland’s independence and answering any concerns that local people may have about independence.
When the United Nations was formed in 1945 it comprised just 51– that number has now grown to more than 190 member states of the UN, many of whom have become independent in the last 70 years. Scotland is now ready to take the next step and join the ranks of independent countries.
Renfrewshire Witch Hunt
Some of you may not know that the Renfrewshire Witches of 1697, also known as the Bargarran witches were originally from a number of towns and villages across Renfrewshire. Eleven-year-old Christian Shaw, daughter of the Laird of Bargarran, complained of being tormented by witches and the accused were subsequently tried, convicted and executed in Paisley.
On 9th June The Paisley Development Trust co-ordinated a re-enactment event, along with several other organisation, which saw Paisley Town Centre return to 1697. People from all over Renfrewshire took part in the re-enactments, dressed in historic attire and joined in. Well done to everyone who was involved - there were some very talented performances and some excellent costumes.

In modern times, more and more of us lead heavily stressful lives. Whether you are working seven days a week or are a full time Mum, this stress can really take its toll.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome is an illness that we hear more about now than ever. In fact, it’s estimated that in the UK, a possible seventy percent of the population is living with some bowel dysfunction due to stress and lifestyle.
IBS is a described as a syndrome because there is no physiological trigger for the illness. Many medical doctors are at a loss to help patients with it because there are no pills or procedures that can be completed to help.
This is why Hypnotherapists get so many referrals for this particular condition. And rightly so too! I firmly believe that IBS is solely triggered from stress and anxiety and by using Hypnotherapy and utilising various lifestyle changes, it can be defeated.
There is a direct link from your brain to your stomach. How many times have we felt ‘butterflies’ in our stomach when anxious or excited? What you are feeling there is that link going into ‘overdrive’ and adrenalin being released.
Unfortunately for IBS sufferers, this happens constantly during the course of their day and being unable to control this subconscious behaviour, it simply gets worse as the lining of the gut spasms and causes pain, cramps and gas. Because the gut is not pushing the waste material through at a steady, calm rate, IBS sufferers then experience constipation or diarrhoea.
During hypnotherapy treatment for IBS, every part of the clients life will be assessed and a very personal treatment plan may then be put in place. The aim is to reduce stress and help the client to change their lives for the better. For some this may be as simple as simply reacting more calmly in certain situations, or something more grand like changing jobs, relationship changes etc.
All these changes are helped by accessing the subconscious and changing any bad habits/behaviour/reactions that the client has stored in their minds. The simple fact of worrying about IBS every day from the moment you wake until the moment you go to bed, can cause the IBS symptoms to intensify. It then becomes a negative cycle of thinking for the sufferer.
Whether its hypno-analysis or straight forward suggestion therapy, hypnosis is a powerful tool at combating and defeating Irritable Bowel Syndrome and gives people their lives back in a way that they probably never thought was
possible.....and they will probably also find that they feel much more in control of so many other things in their lives
too.-.an added bonus.
