The Queen on a previous visit to Hereford

Perhaps this is saving the best ‘til last but Herefordshire will mark the Queen’s Jubilee in its own special way on July 11th and everyone is invited to give Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh a truly Royal welcome on what’s been dubbed Diamond Day. The organisers hope the all-day celebration on the King George V Playing Fields in Hereford will be a once-in-a-lifetime event for the county. The Royal couple will be greeted by a choir of a thousand voices, accompanied by a 90-piece band. Each of Herefordshire’s market towns will tell their own stories in a series of marquees and there will be a procession of dancers, cheerleaders, the Hop Pocket runners and town criers. They’ll be joined by Ryleland sheep, a Hereford Bull, and Grand National winner, Mon Mome. Also on display will be the Wye Trow, one of the vessels which took part in the Thames pageant over the Jubilee Weekend. The day promises something for everyone with children’s activities, arts and crafts, a vintage village and trade stalls as well as a programme of entertainment. It’s all free to ensure as many people as possible will be there to play their part in marking this Royal occasion
