QR CODES?

You may have seen these unusual looking squares appearing in advertisements recently and wondered what they are? Well, wonder no longer. As Nial Chapman from QRpro, explains, they can lead you to all manner of additional information and exciting offers.

QR Code (QR is the acronym for Quick Response) is a two- dimensional matrix barcode that is readable by QR scanners and smartphones with cameras. Standard codes consist of black mod- ules arranged in a square pattern on white background but some codes now use colour and include logos and imagery. QR Codes are now used on a variety of media including billboards, post- ers, newspapers and magazines to allow people to access further content (for example a webpage or video) about an article or advert that they are viewing/ reading about. Advertisers and content providers currently use QR codes for a variety of reasons including sneak previews of TV shows or movies, providing access to special offers and discounts or downloading useful information (for example train and bus timetables) so it is defi nitely worth checking them out. In order to scan a QR Code you must have a smartphone (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry etc) with a camera. You will also have to have a QR Code scanning App installed on your phone. There are many QR Code scanning Apps available for free on all the App stores. We recommend reading the reviews and trialling the different scanning Apps until you fi nd one you like.
