by Sue LaRoche The Alvirne track teams were well represented at the New England Championships held in Saco, Maine on Saturday, June 9. For the boys, junior tri captain Aaron Bellomo ran the 1600 meter race and posted an 11th place fi nish. The talented junior had placed fourth in the Division I championships earlier in the year and again placed fourth in the Meet of Champions which earned him the right to compete in the New Englands. Bellomo broke the Alvirne school record in the 1600 meter and also broke his own record twice this season. Division I state champion Ethan Boucher, a
junior, ran the 300 hurdles for the Broncos with a time of 41.5 in the State meet. He also competed in the Meet of Champions, placing fourth in the
event, qualifying him for the New Englands. This talented tri-captain placed 27th in the New Englands and will be back next year to defend his state title and will aim to improve his standings in the New Englands. For the ladies, sophomore Brittney Lambert qualifi ed for the New Englands after fi nishing fi fth in the state with a high jump of 5 feet 4 inches. She qualifi ed for the Meet of champions where she jumped 5 feet 4 inches again, qualifying her for the New Englands. Unfortunately, after easily clearing 5 feet 3 inches, Lambert jumped and cleared 5 feet 5 inches but hit the bar with her arm on her way down giving her an 11th place fi nish in the New England Championships. The 4 x 800 relay team, comprised of two juniors and two sophomores, Erica Notini and Sarah Rossetti and Marie Morrier and Lydia Lyman, has broken the Alvirne school record three times. This talented team ran for the 29th best time in New England and as Coach Tarek Rothe said, “We look for great things from this foursome; all fi ve of these athletes will be an integral part of this team next year.”
