Hudson - Litchfield News | June 22, 2012 - 13 Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down?

Comments expressed in this column are the sole views of those callers and do not reflect the views of the Hudson~Litchfield News or its advertisers. Town and school officials encourage readers to seek out assistance directly to resolve any problems or issues. The Hudson~Litchfield News editorial staff holds the right to refuse any comment deemed inappropriate.

It is with great regret that once again a limitation must be put on the “Thumbs Up/ Thumbs Down” column because of the continual negative comments about volunteers who coach youth sports leagues. The hope is that if you have an issue about the way your son/daughter’s team is being managed, that you will speak directly to the league after speaking with the coach. If your issues are not resolved, a signed Letter to the Editor will be accepted to air your grievances. We regret having to put social constraints on any person’s need to speak, but most thumbs down comments are destructive to everyone involved, especially the children that are striving in these various sporting endeavors.

“Thumbs up to BOO for achieving Dean’s list for another term! Congrats! Love, your SISSER”

“Thumbs up to the men and women of the 173rd who are on their way to Afghanistan, and to the Soldiers, Airman and Marines who are already there. Be safe and God speed.”

“Thumbs up to the students in the middle

school that speak up about the person that over used their authority in school your guilt is just that your problem do not take out on the kids.”

“Thumbs up and thank you to Hudson True

Value. It was Julie and her wonderful personality that brought in all the town people to her business and she will be missed. But rest assured, your family is taking great care of your customers with their loyalty and honesty. You had just one mailbox left and they quickly ordered me a second one that was needed within a couple days time. Your staff is very friendly and goes above and beyond to keep your customers happy and satisfied. Enjoy your much needed rest Julie, your store is in good hands. Thank you !!!! DP”

“Thumbs up to Bo Schlicter! The children and families of Litchfield have been so blessed by your years of leadership. Enjoy your retirement; you will be missed!”

“Thumbs up to Coach Don and Coach Jeremy, for a fun; all-be-it rainy, season with the Blue Sox!”

“Thumbs up to ‘mi dushi’ for being the best husband and father. We love you!”

“Thumbs up to summer vacation! Let the fun

begin!” “Thumbs down to PMA. This school prides itself

on teaching our children to be good Catholics, yet it makes a grave mistake and never extends a simple ‘we’re sorry– we made a mistake.’ I guess the school picks and chooses when it practices what it preaches.”

“Thumbs up to my little sister, Erin Cannamucio, for turning the big 4-0, baby. You are beautiful, caring, loyal, honest and a great mother/daughter/sister. Wishing you a great birthday...remember 40 is the new 30. Enjoy! The best is yet to come. I love you, Missy. P.S. I was going to write that anyone who runs into you at Superintendent Bell’s office or out and about should give you a hug and a kiss, but I knew that you wouldn’t like it. Tee Hee Hee.”

“Thumbs down to the parent of a Litchfield Lacrosse U13 team member who doesn’t have the courtesy to talk to a coach with whom they disagree, but instead identifies them publicly in a complaint, while they hide their own name. A good parent displays respect for the people who volunteer their time to coach their children. Those impressionable young minds would gain a good lesson in sportsmanship by seeing how to properly handle disagreements. Please work on your parenting skills or withdraw your child if you think he must be protected from experiencing any discomfort.”

“Thumbs up to the Hudson Girls Softball team

Thunder! Great girls, Great coaches, Great season! Congratulations for a great first place season 2012 Senior Division. na-na-na-na-na-na Thunder! Good Luck in the playoffs! Thank you from a very happy spectator.”

“Thumbs up to the school year being over,

now maybe there will be more of a variety in community news that doesn’t involve school activities.”

“Thumbs down to the people that complain or

ask why things aren’t done yet, it’s annoying. If you want to see things change then feel free to roll up your sleeves and get to work with the rest of us volunteers.”

“Thumbs up to all the coaches who volunteer their time to help with Litchfield Softball. Without your dedication and sacrifice the success of the league would not be possible.”

“Thumbs up to Julia Marra for leading the CHS softball team in hits in a very important game. Stepping up, taking a leadership role and making things happen for the team are all qualities necessary for playing in college. You are going to have a great college career!”

“Thumbs up to the LGSL 8U Silver Bullets for a fantastic season. Congratulations on finishing

“Thumbs

up to ex- school board member, Jason

Guerette. Whenever I can’t sleep, I watch the May 30th school board

meeting. His pathetic rhetoric puts me right to sleep, works

better than counting sheep!”

“Thumbs

down. This is the second year in a row that you’ve stolen the flowers off my

husband’s marker in St. Patrick’s Cememtary here in Hudson. So sad, so sad. Bad, bad, bad.”

“Thumbs

down to the budget committee member who walks all the time

and is constantly inspecting the track and telling the school that we don’t need a new track. There’s no reason for him to be walking the track as the construction company is out there tearing and making preparations. There’s no need for him to be asking a million questions of these individuals who are paid to do a job and not be interfered with. A big thumbs down to him.”

“Thumbs up to Brian for shingled cheese, truly they should call it Brian’s sliced.”

“Thumbs up to the PTO at NWES and especially to Mary Joy. These women and men give endless hours to help teachers, office staff, and students at Nottingham West and to keep this school the vibrant place it is! We appreciate your efforts.”

“Thumbs down- to the Hudson Highway Dept

for it’s pot hole filling on Robinson Road. You have done this shoddy patch job for a few years and haven’t paved for more than a few decades. The damage to cars is unfathomable. I don’t know enough deleted expletives to accurately describe the damage to cars and trucks. The only way to drive parts of the road is either off the pavement or on the other side. What a danger you are putting drivers through. Do your job right, not haphazardly.”

“Thumbs up to all the current and former Bus 17 students graduating (or moving on) this year. Several of you I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for the last 10 years as a driver (one I’ve driven at least part of all those years). You will all be missed. Best wishes and good luck in your future endeavors. Also, congratulations and a big

back to back Division I Championships! Have a great summer! –Rob”

“Thumbs down to the thumbs down about

Pepsi. Not only did the person call someone an idiot but also alienated a bunch of people with his comments. How about you do a bit of searching before you put your foot in your mouth. Pepsi used Senomyx who uses HEK cells. Pepsi may not have it in their products now but if it weren’t for people complaining about it then they would have by 2013. Now they are not going to use it. http:// www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/apr/30/ pro-lifers-drop-pepsi-boycott/”

the season with the best record in the 8U division. You should be very proud of what you accomplished this year.”

“Thumbs up! To the 8U LGSL Blue Jay’s

players and coaches – it has been a great season, seeing our girls grow with the leadership of great coaches, John Steiniger and Matt Curtis. You have been taught how to win, lose and how to dig deep when the going gets tough. To come from last place in the regular season to playing in the final championship game is such a great feat! You should be very proud of yourselves for your growth, attitude and perseverance. Way to go ladies (Alex, Ashley, Avery, Chloe, Emily, Erin, Miranda, Lilly, Guilia, Paige and Nicole)!”

“Thumbs up! Way up, to my soccer coach, basketball coach, softball coach, skiing and fishing partner – my dad! You are the best dad ever and teach me everything! I know how lucky I am to have you as my dad. I love you very much and I know Ava feels the same! Have a great Father’s Day! Love, Chloe and Ava”

“Thumbs down once again to the side show

known as Jason Guerette. The constant whining and belly aching is getting very old. If he doesn’t like Litchfield so much perhaps he should leave.”

“Thumbs down to those individuals responsible for vandalizing Benson Park’s Gorilla Cages this past Monday evening. I think I speak for all of us who have put a lot of blood, sweat, time and money into the restoration of the park. Shame on you! Remember, what you do will come back to you tenfold... Karma is a witch. Why don’t you put all the spare time and extra energy into helping out with the restoration of the park instead of putting your tag, which will now point the police in the direction of who you are.”

“Thumbs up to Mrs. Judy Brennen for a great

year of Pre-K at St. Francis for the 2011-2012 school year. You have made this a great year for all the Pre-K students at St. Francis. They have loved your hands-on style and your willingness to always go over and beyond the call of duty! The children have truly enjoyed all the fun projects you created and have learned so much! Thank You, Mrs. Brennen, you are the best! We will miss you!”

“Thumbs down to the principal of St. Francis

School for not renewing Mrs. Judy Brennen’s contract. She is by far one of the best teachers in the school and due to your own personal reasons, you chose not to renew her contract. And a bigger thumbs down at the fact that you are trying to keep this a secret. Well, the secret is out and soon the child will be pulling out too!”

“Thumbs down to the Town of Hudson, for over assessing homes again! A home near me sold for $172,000. The Town has is assessed for $272,200! Homes need to be assessed at their fair market value! Not what the town feels they should assess it for to make their desired profit! Contact our Chairman Selectman Coutu, let him know that his needs to stop! Or we will vote him out! Towns residents are not an unlimited revenue stream! This town is not a Corporation, Coutu! It will not be run like one. Remember, your working for the residents of this town, not against them!”

“Thumbs up and special thanks to Wendy who,

on Thursday June 14, discovered my credit card on the floor at the Pelham Rite Aid and turned it into the police. Whoever you are, I am so grateful for honest people like you and cannot express

enough thanks for you having taken the time to have done this. It was a nice end to what had been a bad day for me. I will be sure to pay it forward. Thanks also to Officer Ryan Donovan who made a strong effort to contact me regarding this matter. –GV”

“Thumbs down to the residents of the blue house on the corner of Bockes and Hopkins for letting your dog wander the streets without a leash or anyone watching it. Your dog leaves unpleasant surprises along the road that do not smell wonderfully. This also poses a safety threat to the dog himself for obvious reasons. Also, thumbs down to the same residents for being possibly the noisiest neighbors we have ever had; the son often goes in circles around the house for hours on end with an ATV. Do you not realize there are elderly people in the area that try to take naps during the afternoons?”

“Thumbs down to the family on the corner of McQuesten and Pinecrest Road with the barking dogs. How could you not notice how they bark non-stop for hours on end? This used to be a quiet neighborhood until you moved in. Please do something about your barking dogs, it makes my blood boil! Thank you for thinking about your neighbors.”

“Thumbs down regarding calling someone a moron or idiot. Neither side should be calling each other names. That being said, I went on the Pepsi web site and was appalled to see an article about aborted fetus tissue being used to make Pepsi. They’re using kidney tissue of aborted fetus’s! It was there in black and white! I will never drink Pepsi ever. It makes you wonder what else they’re putting in our food and drink. Just look it up on your computer. Soilent green anyone?”

“Thumbs up to Ben for an outstanding school

year! Straight A’s all year long. It does pay off. Now enjoy the summer!”

“Thumbs down to Patriot Properties/Town of Hudson, for over-assessing homes! A split level 3 bedroom/3 bath home on 1.214 acres was just sold for $172,00 (10 parker Dr). This home is assessed for $272,200 and taxes are being payed for this amount! This home is about $100,000 over assessed. No wonder why the pervious home owner lost this home! They were over taxed! Most homes in Hudson can only sell for what they were worth in 1995-1999! Our tax rate needs to reflect the true value of our homes! Contact Selectman Coutu and Patriot Properties to stop over taxation without proper justification! Help yourself and your neighbor.”

“Thumbs up to Hudson Police Department for presenting the 14th Citizen Police Academy to interested residents. Officers dedicated their time, expertise and enthusiasm in explaining what they do and why they do it. The 9-week course instilled an appreciation of the challenges and dedication of the force in protecting the town and its citizens. Everyone taking the course felt that it was so good that all residents should take advantage of the 15th Citizens Academy next spring.”
