Population? At the time of the 2001 census it was 137,011 – the 2011 figures, when released, are expected to show a rise in this number.
What type of business would we find in Newport? Newport has an excellent track record in attracting inward investment and reinvestment and has a number of major players in manufacturing, distribution/logistics, financial services and public sector employers located in the city. These include Gocompare,
Admiral, Wales and West Utilities, Rowecord, International Rectifier, Cassidian, the Office of National Statistics, the Intellectual Property Office and the Passport Office.
What was historical industry in the area and how did that fit into the history of Wales? Newport grew up around the docks area and was an important part of the coal and iron industry with the products being transported from the valleys to be shipped from Newport around the world.
