Good Communication Communication is crucial in any successful organisation. Good managers need to be able to communicate to staff clearly and concisely. This will ensure the correct work is done to the right standard. Ensuring each staff member fully understands corporate messaging, objectives and the expectations placed on them will ensure employees are aware of responsibilities and feel equipped to carry out their work effectively.


Emotional Intelligence Awareness and emotional intelligence is an essential managerial skill as managers need be able to recognise any issues which may be affecting their staff members and provide them with the support necessary to rectify any problems. Being flexible, lightening workloads and allowing time off when necessary, will help increase staff loyalty and result in a more motivated team.


Professionalism It is important to not let personal feelings and issues cloud judgement in the workplace or affect the management of others. Honesty and integrity are key traits in all employees, not just managers, but they are fundamental to managerial success, as is the ability to admit mistakes and shortcomings and deal with the consequences.


Delegation Good managers are able to acknowledge the different skill sets within a team and distribute the work, where possible, in line with people’s ability and strengths. They
