We’re all living longer

By Gerald Davies, managing director, Kymin Financial Services Limited

T

hirty per cent of baby boys born this year will live to 100. Turning to those of us who are little older there is equally important news

– we are all living longer, on average. The government has recognised this and

has introduced compulsory pensions for all employees. So, if you are an employer or an employee, this is going to affect you. Employers will have to set up a pension

scheme for employees, and contribute towards it. They will either have to become part of NEST (National Employment Savings Trust) or set up a suitable alternative. Kymin can guide you through the process. Employees who work for a fi rm which

does not have a pension scheme, prepare for change. In due course, you will be automatically enrolled in your employer’s pension scheme. In the meantime, if you have ‘frozen’ pensions from previous employments, or if you are contributing to you own personal pension, Kymin can advise you on your best course of action. Buying an annuity? Stop! Before you commit yourself, ask us

to compare what is available. You may be able to get a much better income than what you are being offered by your pension provider. This is especially true if you are smoker or have a chronic health condition.
