Paul Albin Rollin

Sweet Haven Dairy; Riverdale, Calif. Paul Albin Rollin, family man, farmer and dairy icon, suc- cumbed to cancer early Monday morning, April 23, 2012, at the age of 70. He was a passionate man who was true to his principles and deeply loved his family, his cows and the dairy industry. It was the imperfect, quirky qualities about Paul that made him the man he was and are the things we will miss the most. Famously or infamously, he had a joke for every occasion, could dig down for what seemed like an endless supply of stories, and banter back and forth with the best.

Paul married his wife, Carol 50 years ago this coming Sep- tember 29th. Tey had five children together. As the old saying goes, “you can take the boy out of the dairy, but you can’t take the dairy out of the boy,” so it was with Paul. He truly had a passion for the dairy, from early on in his life, buying his first registered Holstein cow at a public auction at the age of 16. Tis would be the foundation and catalyst that would stoke a fire that burned in his heart until the day he died. His herd, “Sweet Haven,” is world re- nown and can be traced into the bloodlines of a Holstein, on any dairy worldwide.

Paul was a continuous ambassador, visionary and advo- cate for the dairy industry. Selflessly, he donated his time and talents and attempted to meet the needs of all he rep- resented. Locally he served on the boards of DHIA, the Holstein Association and Danish Creamery. On a state lev- el, Paul was on the California Milk Advisory Board, Dairy Council of California and California Holstein Association. He served on the National Dairy Board and represented farmers in Washington D.C. numerous times.

Finally, Paul Albin Rollin was a Christian. His faith in God was the strength that saw him through trials and trage- dies. He modeled the value of going to church as a fam- ily. Most importantly, he believed and gave thanks for the blessing of his wife, his children and grandchildren, and the many people that touched his life. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his daughter Milly, who passed away in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Carol Rollin; daughters, Cathy Medeiros and her husband Mark, and Emma Moore and her husband Kevin; sons, Andy and his wife Melannie, and Donny and his wife Christina; 11 grandchildren, Westin, Tomas, Madison, Emily, Tristan, Noah, Laila, Prestin, Siena, Olivia and Liam.
