Brock Jarrett Toledo Cortney Borba Memorial Awards

Cortney was born on June 6, 1987 and passed away on October 2, 1995. From day one she had no choice but to have a passion for the Holstein Cow. She was the last of three children in the Borba family and from early on loved the dairy industry and Holstein Cow as much as her parents Frank and Carol and older siblings Frankie and Natalie. Cortney loved not only being around the cows, but also to be around the people of the industry. She had a way of reeling them in with just a smile or short conversation. Cortney was known for her outgoing personality and beautiful smile.

Not only was Cortney active within the CJHA, she also played soc- cer and softball and loved to be out on the family dairy helping feed calves and perform daily chores. Her favorite chore was holding calves tails as they were pictured for registration papers. She could not wait until she turned nine so she could join the 4-H club and show at the local and state fairs. It is a shame that she was taken be- fore her ninth birthday, because we know she would have been quite the competitor in the show ring.

After her death in 1995 the Borba Family sat down to find a way to honor Cortney from year to year.

It was a unanimous decision to

establish and sponsor an award and scholarship in her memory to be presented each year at the California Holstein Convention and Cali- fornia State Holstein Show. Te Borba Family said, “Not only do we take pride in honoring Cortney, but we also enjoy helping the future of the California Holstein Association and dairy industry.”
