Jr. President’s Message Caitlin Lopes


I would like to report that the California Junior Hol- stein Association is thriving and as successful as ever! Tis past year was one of many victories and success- es as California’s Junior Dairy Bowl team placed sixth at the National Holstein Con- vention in Richmond, Vir- ginia out of 20 teams in their very 1st National Competi- tion! Team members includ- ed Alex Gambonini-Captain,


Francesca Gambonini, Kiara Gilardi, and Bailey Allen. We also had two wins in National Dairy Jeopardy. In the junior division, Elisabeth Regusci became the NATIONAL CHAMPION in the Junior Division and Tony Lopes, NATIONAL CHAMPION in the Intermediate Division and Eric Migliazzo won second place. Taylor Pires also came home 2nd in the Senior Division. Other dairy jeopardy contestants included Selina Lopes, Elise Regusci, and Caitlin Lopes who all competed very well in each of their categories. Katie Migliazzo placed 2nd Nationally in the In- termediate Division of the Speech Contest. Elisabeth Regusci also received first in the National Junior Written Test and Tony Lopes placed second in the National Senior Written Test. Tay- lor Pires was elected as a part of the National Junior Advisory Committee where she holds the At Large position.


We had a great State Holstein Convention in Petaluma, Califor- nia put on by the Redwood Empire Holstein Club. Te officer team for 2012 includes myself, Caitlin Lopes, as President, Tony Lopes-Vice President, Katie Migliazzo-Secretary, Co-Treasurer Eric Migliazzo & Frankie Gambonini, Co-Historians are Elisa- beth Regusci and Alex Gambonini, and Co-Reporters are Elise Regusci and Colleen Allen. We would like to thank the Red- wood Empire Holstein Club for putting on such a fantastic and enjoyable convention, and we would especially like to thank all of the sponsors for their generous donations especially Yosem- ite Farm Credit for their continuous time and support. An- other big thank you goes to all of those who donated to the Junior Silent Auction which raised over $3,800. Te proceeds will benefit all of the activities the Juniors are involved in. A big congratulations to all the scholarship and award winning recipients at this year’s convention.


Te 2012 National Holstein Convention will be held in Spring- field, Missouri this year. California will proudly be represented


by a Senior Dairy Bowl Team consisting of team members Caitlin Lopes, Elisabeth Regusci, Elise Regusci, and Tony Lopes. California will also send a Junior Dairy Bowl Team, members in- clude Alex Gambonini, Kiara Gilardi, Bailey Allen, and Hannah Young. Selina Lopes and Alexandria Lopes will be competing in National Junior Dairy Jeopardy while Eric Migliazzo and Taylor Pires will be competing in Senior Dairy Jeopardy. We will also have three speech contestants: Alexandria Lopes, Katie Mi- gliazzo, and Taylor Pires. In the Folding Display Competition, Alex Gambonini & Christian Cunningham will be competing. California is honored to have a National Young Distinguished Junior Member this year (1 of only 8 Nationally) Tony Lopes. Congratulations to all participants and we wish you the best of luck!


Cow Camp will be held at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo from July 9th to the 11th and all Juniors are invited to attend! We will be staying in the dorms, visiting the dairy facility, and heading to the beach! Educational activities slated for Cow Camp are an Embryo Transfer seminar and a mock Dairy Challenge Com- petition.
