REVIN LIFE INSURANCE OLUTION

Life insurance premiums often bear little relation to the true health of the insured person, who can end up paying too much on the basis of an inadequate health assessment. Lifelong insurance expert Dennis Guise knew there must be a way to get a better deal for the consumer. After some sad personal experiences, he decided it was time to create one.

Dennis Guise knows just about everything there is to know about the life insurance business. He had been with Rothschilds and St. James’s Place, where he was among the first principal partners, before selling his business and retiring in 2006. But his mother’s passing gave him pause.

‘It made me think about how little care we take of our bodies,’ Dennis says, ‘we spend much more money looking after our cars.’ So the Guise family and a group of investors established Healthscanlife to help others access the kind of diagnosis that would perhaps

have saved his mother. Dennis's sister, Deb Guise, set up an associated insurance brokerage, HSL Assured, to create a new and more accurate way of marrying premiums to clients’ health.

‘Typically, insurance premiums are significantly higher if you have elevated cholesterol levels,’ Dennis says. ‘What we have found is that over half of our clients who have high cholesterol, after having a CT scan of their heart have a zero calcium score and have therefore little or no heart disease, and shouldn’t be paying such high premiums. On top of that, they often find they don’t need to keep taking statins.’

In early 2011, Dennis himself was diagnosed with cancer, of the prostate. The results of a timely scan saved him from radical and life changing surgery, which redoubled his determination.

‘I was one of 40,000 men who develop prostate cancer each year,’ Dennis says, ‘which is why we advise all our male clients over the age of 50 to have an annual PSA test for the disease. High blood pressure and cholesterol are also

among the most common ailments our clients have. Accurate diagnosis means we get our clients a square deal on their insurance.

‘In 60% of the clients we deal with aged 45 and over, we can reduce comparable insurance premiums by up to 50%, saving them many thousands of pounds,’ Guise says. ‘We believe this is a major step forward in giving people life insurance that properly protects their interests while being the best value for money possible.’

If you have either high blood pressure or high cholesterol and are paying what you believe are too high insurance premiums, or are about to apply for new insurance, contact Healthscanlife to see if they can review your insurance costs downwards.
