product, guaranteed for five years and excellent past user experience,” says Adrian Corthine of Elite. “We also needed the first rate colour rendition offered by AlphaLED.”

With the sale of something like flowers, where colour is an important aspect of sales, colour rendition is a serious consideration and so the high performance of the AlphaLED product is a real benefit for Browns. Curve track mounted spotlights in white were specified throughout, with the highest colour rendition of CRI98 and a colour temperature of 4000k to enhance the colours of the flowers, in particular the bright reds. “The client is delighted,” says Adrian Corthine. “The shop stands out in Canary Wharf, a beacon of colour that draws the eye.”

Colour is also a big part of the appeal of

products on offer at Lush, a store dedicated to colourful handmade cosmetics. The company called on the help of Philips to create an ideal LED lighting system for their store in Eldon Square, Newcastle, which has since provided the template for a second store in Cribbs Causeway.

Philips worked closely with Lush to achieve the optimum lighting design for the Eldon Square branch. The chosen solution uses a combination of LuxSpace Compact recessed downlighters and recessed and track-mounted StyliD fittings to deliver an illuminance of 500 lux on the working plane with a much lower installed electrical load compared to traditional retail lighting. “We are very pleased with the quality of the lighting at Eldon Square and a further benefit is the longer lamp life, as maintenance costs are reduced and we will not have to invest in new lighting for around 15 years,” explains Lush

Sustainability Manager Ruth Andrade. Time is precious for retailers, but it is also very important to make sure that any lighting design is completed to the exacting needs of the client. Compact Lighting Limited are proud to be a UK-based manufacturer of high-quality lighting products, using a modern factory plant and equipment to enable the development of ideas into fully realised products and schemes within extremely short lead times. The team understands the realities of the retail environment. Lead times and store layouts often change at the last minute and being able to adapt to these changes quickly is one of their key strengths. Their office and factory equipment combined with a dedicated and experienced staff help the team to keep projects on track.
