BU Sport expects to produce its biggest ever Olympics coverage this year, feeding more than 3,000 hours of coverage from London to its
members throughout the Asia-Pacific.
In partnership with Olympic Broadcast Services, the ABU will produce 11 channels of programming, news and highlights from this year’s Summer Games.
In total, nearly 6,000 hours of events will be shot during the 16 days of competition in July and August, according to ABU Director of Sport John Barton. This will be distributed to a record 207 Olympic nations around the world.
“We expect to transmit more than 3,000 hours to ABU members, totalling around 30 territories,” he said.
For the first time, one channel will be dedicated to feeding real-time data allowing broadcasters in more remote places

the same access to commentary and other vital Olympic information that will be available in the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in London.
The ABU will be providing commentary and technical support in the production of the London Multi-channel Distribution Service (MDS), a service which was pioneered by Television New Zealand at the Sydney Games in 2000.
“It has become a valuable program resource enabling our members to focus more on their own needs, rather than trying to cover nearly 800 events,” Mr Barton said.
The Team Leader for the ABU MDS will be John West from TVNZ who has coordinated multi-channel services for members for several Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth games.
