GOP women present candidates, picnic food Bite into a juicy slice of watermelon


or a hot dog with all the fixings and hear candidates for public office – all cherished American summertime traditions – at the Chandler Republican Women’s 1st Annual Watermelon Festival, 6 p.m. to dark Sat., June 9, at Tumbleweed Park, 745 E. Germann Rd., Chandler. The event features an old-fashioned


family picnic featuring hot dogs and watermelon, games and soapbox presentations by Republican candidates for public office at national, state and city levels.


GOP candidates running for national,


state, county and city offices will be on hand to speak briefly from the Official Soap Box and be available for discussions. This includes hopefuls in Legislative Districts 17 and 22 and for the 5th and 9th Congressional Districts as well as for Chandler City Council. Candidates who have confirmed


attendance include: Secretary of State Ken Bennett;


Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell; state Sens. Steve Yarbrough and John McComish; state Reps. Tom Forese and J.D. Mesnard; 5th Congressional District candidates Kirk Adams and Matt Salmon; 9th Congressional District candidates Travis Grantham, Vernon Parker, Leah Campos Schandlbauer and Martin Sepulveda; Chandler City Council incumbents Rick Heumann and Jack Sellers and challengers Nora Ellen and Terry Roe.
