He scored 21 runs and drove in 15, demonstrating some extra-base pop with eight doubles, tied for third on the team. He also stole three bases. “Jake did a great job of getting on base,” Millennium coach Mike Jacobs said. “He was our MVP.” Despite getting hit by pitches on three occasions this season, including in the head against Desert Mountain in the Division I state tournament, Newsome proved very durable. “He only missed

Millennium. He is very mature.” Knowing his role

Heather did not see a great deal of playing time, but was a solid contributor to the Tigers’ success, Jacobs said. In limited action, Heather batted .304, while scoring six runs and knocking in three. However, his value to the team was in his desire to help in any way possible. When not in the lineup, Heather would warm up pitchers in the bullpen and in-between innings. “He played his role,” Jacobs said. “The guy in front of him [Hunter Brock] was pretty good, he made second-team all- section,” Jacobs said. Primarily a catcher, Heather demonstrated his versatility by playing all nine defensive positions against Glendale Independence on April 24 in a 14-4 Millennium triumph.

“Jake is an excellent student. He is a member of the National Honor Society, he was our Legacy Award winner as the best student/ath- lete at Millennium. He is very mature.”
