POINTS N PLUGS By Jerry Hutchcroft

Wow, it’s been a tough two years for my wonderful wife Donna. She lost her mother in 2010 and now, her dad has passed away in early May. I lost my dad in 2007 and he was the first close fam- ily loss for us in over 20 years. Donna’s father Al Mendoza,

was such a neat father-in-law. He accepted me from day one, even though, I was bringing three kids into the marriage with Donna. He and his loving wife Doris, also ac- cepted my kids as new grand kids to the family, right from the start. It’s interesting to note, that their loving acceptance of me and my kids, probably made Donna and my new life together much easier especially in those first few years, which are always tough, especially when there are step kids involved. Al was a professional cabinet maker by trade, so any time we needed a new table (big or small) or dresser or set of cabinets, Al would ask what we wanted and in a few weeks, he’d deliver amaz- ing examples of his wood working craftsmanship. He was definitely not a car guy, but he attended sev- eral car shows with me over the years and he was proud to wear his favorite Roddin’ & Racin’ T- shirt and even had it on when he passed away. To say that he will be missed, is a huge understatement. I guess it’s officially time to ac- cept, as the song says “THE HEAT IS ON”. Also time, if not al- ready done, to get your daily driver and cruising vehicles ready for the summer heat of Arizona. I’m go- ing to do a cooling system flush on

all my vehicles ASAP and change the oil in any with more than 3000 miles since the last oil change and change the air filters on most of them, since we’ve had a pretty windy winter and spring. I’ll be changing the transmission fluid on our Saturn Vue as well. Plus, I’ll put a gallon of water in each vehicle just for that little extra safety fea- ture and make sure there’s a blan- ket or big towel in case you had to crawl under the vehicle in the heat. I’m writing this on Friday of Me- morial Day weekend and hope everyone had a safe and enjoy- able weekend!!! Along with work- ing on this issue of the paper, I also watched the Indy 500 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 from

Charlotte

Motor Speedway. CONGRATU- LATIONS to Dario Franchitti, now a three time Indy 500 winner $2,474,280 winners share and to Kasey Kahne, now, also a three time winner of the Coca-Cola 600 and of course we send PRAYERS and SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THE CURRENT and PAST SER- VICE MEN and WOMAN THAT HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE TO CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY IN THERE HONOR!!!

In Loving Memory Of Alfonso C. Mendoza July 24, 1927 - May 5, 2012

On May 5th, 2012 Donna Hutchcroft’s father passed away. Leaving a wife Doris, and 3 other children - Sylvia, Bruce, Denise, 2 son-in-laws Rob and Jerry, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. His memory will stay alive, because my father had a very gifted talent in working with wood. Over the years he had built so many beautiful pieces of furniture for family members and family friends, and ev- ery church he was ever part of, eventu- ally had many examples of his cabinet making craftsmanship. These pieces will keep his memory alive through the years until we all see him again.

We all love and miss you dad.
