SLJC Men’s Club ends season on high note

Bob Rossow The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation

Men’s Club has ended its season on a very high note. This month’s speaker, Robert Tate, a former Viking and Cardinal football player, gave us a marvelous talk. He talked about growing up in a very tough community in Pennsylvania and how this helped prepare him for his stint in the NFL. He also talked about the current problems in the NFL, especially those regarding hurting other players and medical issues for retired players. He emphasized the work that the Robert Tate Foundation does to help children with dyslexia, a problem Robert had when he was younger. It was a very interesting speech. We also had elections at the same

meeting, and voted in the same offi cers as last year: Jeff Spear as president; Roger Spark as vice-president; and Sy Evans as treasurer. Congratulations

to these three

fi ne offi cers on the great job they did running the Men’s Club. You gentlemen are really excellent leaders. From all of us at the Men’s Club, we

Jeff Spesr, our president, and Robert Tate, our speaker.

wish you a good summer and look forward to a full year of new and exciting activities starting in the fall. 

Wellness Cruise to Panama Canal

Don Fiore. After 18 years of teaching easy Tai Chi

and Qigong movements to people of all ages, Don Fiore and his wife Tori decided that cruising with other people interested in wellness was a great way to relax while also focusing on balanced health habits. They invited friends, students and fellow Instructors to a Panama Canal cruise from December 4 to 19, 2012. The open invitation welcomes anyone who wants to share their expertise about wellness. Two of the ports have a possible excursion for swimming with the dolphins. Thirty years of corporate stress in real

estate took its toll on Don. Then in the early nineties, after taking a Tai Chi class, a chiropractor asked Don to teach the easy moves to his patients. Don became certifi ed and soon began teaching at businesses, hospitals, colleges, fi tness centers and adult communities. After sharing with Parkinson participants

at the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, he realized that a DVD was needed for people with physical challenges. Thus he and his wife created the “Easy

Tai Chi – Qigong” DVD, which is suggested as a resource on the National Parkinson Association website and also on Maximum Life Association website. Don has shared the health benefi ts of

Tai Chi and Qigong on radio and television, and he and Tori’s six DVDs are being sold around the world through their website: TaiChiHealthProducts.com. As well, Don has hosted a yearly event “World Tai Chi and Qigong Day” at

the Franciscan

Renewal Center in Scottsdale for the past 13 years.
