Contrary to what many of my friends may believe, my reading isn’t confined to murder mysteries, though I admit that genre, particularly those involv- ing private detectives, is my favorite. I do crack a non-fiction book quite of- ten, everything from Matt Taibbi’s Griftopia about the ongoing financial cri- sis to David McCullough’s The Greater Journey, a history of Americans in Paris in the 19th century. Most often my non-fiction selections are biographies and memoirs. Some of those read like a tabloid and some like a novel, but all of them allow me a walk in another’s shoes for a little while.
