Martial artists

gets a kick out of tournament

S

tudents at a martial arts club in Abbots Langley are celebrating success at two

recent tournaments. Ten fighters from BJ Academy of Abbots

Langley Taekwondo club, aged between five and 35, attended the Bracknell National Championship. Nine of the ten competitors who attend weekly training at Abbots Langley Community Centre made it through to the finals. The team walked away with three gold, five

silver and one bronze medal. Another successful day for the club came at the

Nottingham Taekwondo Club. Of the five fighters who attended, one competitor won a silver medal while another two picked up bronze. Master Brima Johnson, head of the BJ

Academy Taekwondo club, said he was delighted at the results. He added: ―I was so proud of everyone that

fought at these tournaments no matter what their results were. For some of the students this

was their first time in a championship tournament. ―The club is hoping for more sponsorship, to

enable these students to compete in further competitions and to start training with electronic equipment which are now used in major events.‖ Students have been invited to attend an

international tournament in the USA in October and the club is now raising money so they can attend the tournament and gain experience. The club meets at the Abbots Langley

Community Centre on Saturdays from 11am until 1pm, Sundays from 10am until 11am and from Wednesdays from 8.30pm until 9.30pm. If you can sponsor the club or you are

interested in joining, contact Master Brima Johnson: brima@bjacademy.co.uk
