CAN YOU HELP US?

COULD you visit someone in your community who is badly isolated due to illness or mobility difficulties?

Could you help someone who is visually impaired to read their post once a week?

When you do your shopping, could you take someone else along with you who would otherwise struggle to get supplies?

Could you sit with someone for an hour to give their carer a break?

Could you take someone to a medical appointment, keep them company and reassure them while they wait to be seen?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES, then we would love to hear from you – you’d be surprised how many people living very close to you are in need of this kind of help, but have no idea where to find it. Volunteering In Health provide the link that

finds them the help that they need, and gives volunteers a chance to make a direct and positive difference to the life of someone local to them. We pay out-of-pocket expenses, and can find an opportunity that fits into whatever hours you can kindly offer. You’ll have a chance to learn new skills, meet new people and be a key part of developing services to address local needs.

Are you a carer?

Do you look after a family member, a friend or a neighbour, on a regular basis? Many people do not consider themselves a carer. The unsung heroes of our community, their role is taken on, without payment, to selflessly

give the hours and days of their lives towards helping someone else. Three out of five people will, at some time, look after someone in a caring capacity. Anyone can be a carer, including young people who may be looking after a parent, grandparent or sibling. They usually take on tasks and responsibilities that the person they look after could not function without. Volunteering in Health runs a Carers Support

Group on the last Wednesday of every month from 2pm to 4pm at Bitton House in Teignmouth. Guests can meet in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with other carers, and take a couple of hours to recharge by doing something for themselves. We offer trips out, art workshops, dancing, along with advice and information about benefits and other sources of support available to carers.

more, just come along to one of our meetings, or call in advance on 01626 771143.

Memory Cafes

Do you or someone you know have problems with memory? A Memory Café is somewhere where you can go for advice and support if you or someone you know has short memory lapses. We meet on the first Thursday of the month from 10am to midday in Teignmouth at Croft Lodge, and also at Dawlish’s Sefton Hall on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 2pm to 4pm.
