VOLUNTEERING in Health is a voluntary patient support service for the benefit of Teignmouth and Dawlish hospitals and surgeries, and all the patients of branch sites in Bishopsteignton, Chudleigh and Shaldon.

Our aim is to offer practical and emotional support to patients both in the community and in hospital, particularly at times of health crisis. We also aim to support relatives and carers, thereby improving the health and well-being of all.

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

HOSPITAL – If you, or a relative are in Teignmouth or Dawlish hospital and need support, advice, or information, we can help.

TRANSPORT – If you are finding it difficult to get to a medical appointment of any kind, we have volunteers who can take you there and back – and wait with you while you are seen, if you wish. We have a suggested tariff of donations which helps us to keep this valuable service running.

VISITING AND BEFRIENDING– We have volunteers who visit people who are isolated or alone in their homes. This can be on a weekly basis, or whatever suits both parties. We can help with shopping if someone is unable to go out (a small suggested donation applies).

SUPPORT FOR CARERS – If you care for a friend or relative on a regular basis we can support you. We may be able to

provide you with a volunteer sitter to sit with the person you care for. We also hold regular carers’ support meetings in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, along with an annual Carers’ Well-Being Day.

DAY TRIPS – If you want to get out and about with others, meet new friends or see new places, we run regular trips to local attractions, garden centres, shopping outlets and beauty spots. Trips are run with mobility issues in mind, and volunteers are on hand to assist.

LOCAL INFORMATION – We have a vast knowledge of local services and information. Give us a ring to find out which services and support are available in your area.

FUNDRAISING– We hold regular fundraising events to enable us to support our community activities, and are always on the look-out for innovative fundraising ideas. If you can help, we would be very

happy to hear from you!
