Sarah Woolway, vice-chairman of Teignmouth Carnival writes: I would like to start by looking at the success of
previous carnivals. For a number of years now, Teignmouth’s
Carnival week has been growing from strength to strength. This has been due to the commitment, hard work and leadership of past and present committees, who have strived to put Teignmouth Carnival back on the map. And I think you will agree that their vision has been achieved. In the last few years we have seen new, and
now very successful events added to the week, like Teignmouth’s Got Talent and the Saturday Music Festival Day. Both these days are now eagerly awaited by young and old alike. However, carnival week would not be the same without some of the old favourites, like It’s A Knockout, The Baby Show, and the highlight of the week, The Carnival Procession. This is when everyone lines the streets of Teignmouth to show their appreciation for the floats, big and small, and the of course the pedestrian groups and single fancy dress entries, of which are all very colourful and diverse in nature. Which brings me on nicely to a very important announcement. The Carnival Procession itself will be on the Thursday this year, due to a clash with the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. So please make a note in your diaries – THURSDAY, JULY 26, is CARNIVAL PROCESSION DAY. If you are not thinking of entering this year please do come along and support us.
