LEGACY GIVING SUPPORTING HEALTH CARE

Because we’ll all need it at some point in our lives

Kjell Sundin has had cancer twice in his life. In both instances, it was detected early. He feels very fortu- nate that because of two successful surgeries he has contin- ued to have a busy, active and healthy life. To show his appreciation, Kjell created a foundation in his

name. The annual income from this fund will support the pur- chase of new surgical equipment at the Kelowna General Hospital.

Kjell has also included the Kelowna General Hospital

Foundation in his will.He and many other generous donors are recognized on the KGH Foundation’s Legacy Tree. The pur- pose of this beautiful hand-carved tree is to recognize each of our legacy donors during their lifetime by having a leaf engraved in their honour. Today, Kelowna area residents are fortunate to be only min- utes away from a medical team of excellence with leading edge medical skills. This team requires improved and innovative med- ical equipment, technology and facilities in order to provide the best possible care. The new Centennial Tower at KGH will have a new Emergency Department that will be four times the current facility size. This new facility will include a separate pediatric trauma area, a mental illness and addictions treatment area, and increased space for patient examinations, as well as improved waiting space for the comfort of families and caregivers. A new and streamlined Ambulatory Care Department (day surgery) will provide space to bring all day surgery procedures together into on area of the hospital, enabling staff to improve efficiencies in all procedures. These improvements, in turn, should reduce waiting times for

tests, diagnosis, and treatments or rehabilitation, enabling pa- tients to return to the comfort of their home for a faster and less stressful recovery process. A new 180-seat lecture is housed in the new UBC Clinical Academic Campus located next to Kelowna General Hospital. As a result of a unique partnership with KGH and UBC Okanagan, this state-of-the-art theatre will advance medical care by providing unique educational opportunities to UBC medical students, KGH physicians, and medical and nursing staff.

As a result of this expansion, we will experience an incredi-

ble change in patient care delivery now and for generations to come. The Kelowna General Hospital Foundation is deeply grateful

for the support received through annual donations, campaign support and legacy gifts. As Kjell says, “Kelowna is where I will spend the rest of my life.

We have a good health-care system which we all will need at some point. I think we all should support the KGH Foundation.” For information on how you can create your legacy at the
