CLARE TEAL Barnfield Theatre, Exeter From presenting her weekly Radio 2 shows, to supporting Liza Minelli, to performing at the BBC Proms, Clare Teal can do it all – which is how her concerts can cover such a huge spectrum of sounds and genres so wonderfully. And although rooted in the jazz traditions of the 1930s and 40s, the main focus is on Clare’s interpretations and delivery of some of the greatest British songs of the last 100 years. From Ivor Novello and Noel Coward to Annie Lennox and Snow Patrol, the show wends its way through 100 years of pure class.

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES Northcott Theatre, Exeter The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of the greatest stories of the 20th century and its macabre appeal has made it the most popular of the Sherlock Holmes adventures. In this new production, Oldham Coliseum Theatre join forces with imitating the dog, an innovative visual design team. Together they fuse different theatrical traditions to create a dark and sinister world.

THE CARDINALS Drum Theatre, Plymouth The Cardinals is the story of a show within a show. Three Cardinals are using a large puppet theatre to tell a history of the world, running seamlessly from Bible stories through The Crusades to contemporary Middle Eastern politics and, ultimately, the apocalypse.

SIMON AMSTELL Northcott Theatre, Exeter The award-winning comedian, actor/screenwriter (Grandma's House) and presenter (Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Popworld) returns with a brand new stand-up tour for 2012. Intensely vulnerable and painfully honest, Amstell attempts again to heal himself in public, following 2009's critically acclaimed 'Do Nothing'.

16-17 MAY BORN IN THE GARDENS Cygnet Theatre, Exeter Set in an ageing mock-Tudor house in Bristol in 1979, Maud and her stay-at-home son, Mo, pass their days happily together. He talks to the cat, plays his drums and concocts ridiculous cocktails for them both while she sits chatting away to the people on the telly. No amount of coaxing from Maud’s suave elder son, Hedley, and Mo’s glamorous twin sister, Queenie, will persuade the eccentric pair to lead a more normal life – even the ‘michael wave’ is a gadget too far and part of a world neither wishes to inhabit.


This is a story set when new technology, business morality and social patterns were changing the nation’s behaviour….
