LIT RESP

Witness the power of words, rhythm, and healthy personal expression with this dynamic collective of young poet-performers. They use meter, rhyme, and verbal dexterity like the poets of old, but there’s nothing old about their signature blend of hip-hop theater, incisive pop culture references, side-splitting social commentary, electric violin, and out-of-sight imagery! Engaging, inspirational, and powerfully in-tune with the real issues that students face each day, the Mayhem Poets impart a hip and positive message that inspires young people to study and write poetry in classical and contemporary forms, while embracing diversity, non-violence, and strong self-image. Relates to poetry, multi-culturalism, healthy choices, self-esteem, and positive self-expression. VT Stan.:1.23, 3.5, 3.1, 5.11. Sponsored by Bill and Tanya Cimonetti

LIT 6

Based on a title suggested by the audience, these insanely talented performers create a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style. Each off-the-cuff drama uses the language and themes of William Shakespeare, with power struggles, star-crossed lovers, sprites, kings, queens, sword-play, rhyming couplets, asides, insults, persons in disguise, and all that we’ve come to expect from the pen of the great Bard. Whether a tragedy, comedy, or history, nothing is planned-out, rehearsed, or written, so each play is a world premiere! An incredible study of the elements of Shakespeare so hilarious it will leave your students begging for more Bard. Relates to Shakespeare, poetry, and storytelling, creative expression. VT Stan.: 1.15, 3.10, 5.3, 5.16. Sponsored by Susan E. Quinn Memorial Fund
