Out with the old at Gleneagles Hotel

GLENEAGLES Hotel has achieved a 66 per cent reduction in energy use by removing its old, inefficient lighting and replacing it with modern alternatives. Set in 850 acres of Perthshire

countryside, the five star resort is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. It is committed to working towards a sustainable future having already been awarded a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme for its environmental work and published its own Sustainability Policy. Energy management was highlighted

as a key factor of the hotel’s Sustainability Plan. After a successful trial, Gleneagles Hotel selected GE Lighting to help make the switch from inefficient incandescent and halogen lighting to energy efficient alternatives that would not compromise light output and the hotel's established aesthetics. GE Lighting provided a range of LEDs, including the 7W GU10 LED and the new GLS Energy Smart 9W LED, which offer a like-for-like replacement for inefficient incandescent and halogen lighting. Both LEDs ensure a high efficiency output is maintained long-term to ensure substantial energy and cost reductions. In the bar area,120 40W incandescent lamps were replaced with 9W Energy Smart LEDs, reducing running costs from £4,625 to just £1,156 in just under a year.

MOVEABLE partitions specialist Style was contracted to provide flexible space in both the VIP and dining areas at the new Grosvenor G Casino at the Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre, Didsbury. Opened in February, the casino is the

latest addition to the entertainment destination, which also offers a sports and entertainments lounge, restaurant, late night bar, interactive games room as well as conference facilities. A key aspect of the installation was to

offer a solution that could sub-divide space with ease, offering privacy to guests and diners while also complementing the styling of the casino. Working with contractors GF Holding

and architects, Cadmium Design of London, Style recommended a Dorma

Varitrans partitioning system for the VIP area. The all-glass system provides privacy but also maximises unbroken vision and sight lines. Manoeuvring the panels into place is easy, allowing staff to quickly reconfigure the space to accommodate different groups as required. A spring has been housed in the floor under the full height pass door for ease of use and greater control. For the dining areas, Style selected the Dorma Variflex partitioning system finished with an American walnut veneer to blend with the interior. Delivering an acoustic rating of 45dB the Variflex partitions effectively minimise noise disturbance from elsewhere in the room.
