Policy: Did You Know?
The Company will, under certain circumstances, reimburse the cost of tuition, textbooks, and certain required fees incurred by an employee in acquiring additional knowledge to increase the employee’s effectiveness in his/her present position or to prepare the employee for advancement from that position.
Create Connections: People want to have meaning in all aspects of their lives. If they do not feel the importance of what they do, they disconnect. Therefore, it is important to highlight the connections between things and people. Help employees see the “big picture” of how their role and objectives fit into the organization’s objectives. Encourage others to look at how their actions and performance affect others.
The decision as to whether the proposed course will increase effectiveness in a position or prepare that employee for advancement is one that will be made by the employee’s department head. All employees who work 20 hours or more per week are eligible for 80% reimbursement of tuition and books up to an annual maximum. In order to qualify, you must earn a grade of C or better at an accredited school, college, university, trade school, or through approved associations, professional societies, or similar organizations.
Murphy USA wants to help you reach your goals. For more information on tuition reimbursement, please visit the Portal: Training > Educational Assistance.

“I am having issues getting my new hire
through the system, can I have them start first and fix it later?
NO! The BrassRing system was designed to provide a more effective way for you to hire and onboard new team members. The same rules apply that always have. NO ONE is allowed to work off the clock for Murphy USA. This includes employees who have not “officially” started.
Until both you and the new hire have completed all of the necessary steps and the employee shows up in your system for scheduling, he or
she is NOT permitted to work. It is
in your best interest to ensure that you begin the process early enough to cause as little disruption to the store as possible while hiring a new person. Below are a few things that you can do to help make sure that you don’t run into this issue. 1. Begin the process early enough to ensure as little disruption to the store as possible while hiring a new employee.
2. Contact your District Manager to confirm that the potential employee has been approved by them in the system.
3. Check the NEW EMPLOYEE section of the Portal under Human Resources to make sure
that there are no errors in the submission of the new hire.
BrassRing is the system for hiring and onboarding, but we still have additional steps behind the scene to make sure that the new person is showing up in our payroll systems and databases.
Checking a few
things for certainty may take a few extra minutes, but saves you from the potential pitfalls of letting someone work that isn’t yet an employee. We are all expected to adhere to Department of Labor Standards regarding reporting of time.
If you have questions about onboarding in the BrassRing system, contact the National Support Center at 877-237-8306.
