are centers such as Good Samaritan Society – Red Oak and Villisca did not exist in the time of Christ, but if they had, I know Jesus could have used them as an example of the presence of God. In the gospel of Matthew, He tells us we

can find God in those we serve. Jesus says, “Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” As a supporter, you are an integral

part of the Good Samaritan Society by helping us be a community of Christ. Few opportunities are as rewarding. Volunteers are never without the joy of a story or a handclasp. Donors help make this place a home for others. My chaplain position is the direct result of such dedication. I want to thank all who have made it possible.

The last year has been one of unex- pected challenges, rewards and joys. I view each moment as a sweet time of bonding with residents and staff members –– becoming a family. On one of my first visits, a resident met me and asked, “What do you want to know?” I wasn’t aware that this was just a part of his greeting to all. Searching for a question, I looked at the piano behind him and asked, “How many keys on a piano?” He thought for a second,

threw up his hands and proclaimed, “All of them!” These are soul-caring moments. There

are the joys of seeing someone come out of his or her shell and begin having great conversations. There are joys of bedside prayer with an unresponsive resident, who at the amen ever so gently says, “Thank you.” We all become pastors, priests and

deacons when we experience this place. I pray that you will keep on carrying out the good work He has started in you. I applaud you for sharing your multitudes of gifts. V
