BOTTLES, CAPS & CLOSURES New blue droppers

Johnsen & Jorgensen has complemented its popular range of amber dropper bottles with an attractive new range of blue glass bottle options. The blue dropper bottles come in 10, 30, 50 and 100ml sizes and are also available in frosted glass options. The droppers are, says the company, ideal for dispensing and dosing a range of pharmaceutical liquids and medicines and are also very popular within the herbal remedy and aromatherapy markets, storing, for example, essential oils and fragrance oils. The new blue range is available with full dropper bulb assemblies and plugs and can be used with or without tamper-proof screw cap closures. This range is currently held in stock at the French

warehousing facilities of pan-European packaging supplier, Pont Europe, with whom Johnsen & Jorgensen merged late last year. For more information call 01322 291111, email sales@jjpack.com or visit www.jjpack.com.

LV, a New bottle for beer

A new lightweight beer bottle by glass packaging manufacturer Beatson Clark was showcased at the Food & Drink Expo at the Birmingham NEC last month. The 500ml tapered amber beer bottle can also be manufactured in white flint and weighs just 285g – almost half the amount of Beatson Clark’s original beer bottle, which weighed in at 403g. Beatson Clark’s marketing director Lynn Sidebottom commented: “Following market research we have come up with a new modern design for a lightweight 500ml tapered beer bottle. The bottle will have a standard crown neck finish suitable for beers, ales or ciders; however it will also be interchangeable with an MCA finish to make it suitable for soft drinks. This new design is also the first tapered beer bottle in Beatson Clark’s general sale range. This is an exciting development for Beatson Clark.” For more information call 01709 828141 or visit www.beatsonclark.co.uk.

New embossed print

M&H Plastics has created an innovative new decorative effect by featuring a high-build varnish printed directly onto the product resulting in a distinctive tactile texture. The high-build varnish gives a gloss embossed effect which contrasts with the co-ex soft touch matt finish of the HDPE bottle. This is a cost-effective alternative to embossing and adds a premium feel to the product. M&H has one of the most comprehensive in-house decoration facilities encompassing silk screen printing, hot foil blocking, tampo pad printing, shrink sleeving and labelling. For more information call 01502 715518, email marketing@mhplastics.com or visit www.mhplastics.com.

Marking nail bottles

Marking or coding glass bottles for various consumer products is a frequent laser marking request that is perfect for C02

Lines Ltd, who offers the complete range of Synrad C02

lasers, says UK distributor Laser lasers. For the application

pictured, the request was to mark a small eight-character alphanumeric date code on the outer rim of a glass nail

polish bottle. A Synrad 10 W laser and an FH Flyer marking head equipped with a 125 mm focal length lens was used, which provided a focused spot size of 180 µm. This in turn provided a three millimetre depth of field, which allowed the eight characters to be marked without exceeding the depth of focus. For more information call 01295 672500, email info@laserlines.co.uk or visit www.laserlines.co.uk.

copolyester resin for shrink film labels from Eastman Chemical Company, Brown-Forman Beverages has launched a successful limited edition package for its 70cl bottle of Southern Comfort liquor in the UK and Australia. To grab consumer attention and stand out on the shelves, the bottle features 360- degree graphics in vivid colours made possible by the high printability of the full body label sleeve. The end impression is a high-quality package that appears as if it is gift wrapped, leading to on-shelf differentiation and marketing power. “We were delighted with the success of the limited edition bottle – the reaction generated by the sleeve was fantastic,” said Jamie Butler, Southern Comfort brand manager, Brown-Forman Beverages Europe Ltd. For more information call +31-(0)10-2402272, email gwenwijnveldt@eastman.com or visit www.eastman.com/embrace.
