QUESTION TIME

“Ultimately, it is hoped that the measures we put in place will combine to enhance our reputation all the way through to the consumer, so that we are respected and trusted within our target markets and communities”

The struggle between

growing more and using less can be lucrative if balanced

correctly, but costly if one is placed over the other

with our potato farmers to reduce waste and grow seed potatoes that use less water than the standard varieties. We are also working with the Royal College of Agriculture to develop sustainable standards for other arable crops. Sustainability is a long term

activity. New technologies will come along to further improve our operations and we will continue to embrace them. But it

would be wrong to wait for some technology environmental bullet that will solve the planet's problems. All food companies should be doing all they can now to make their businesses as sustainable as possible. This should not be in conflict with growth as savings generated could help fund growth. Furthermore employees, customers and consumers expect food companies to be working on

sustainability in the broadest sense. We firmly believe that doing more with less actually accelerates our growth. 
