Where to Stay

A Stress-busting Stay

For our Editor Hannah Gibbons, spending a weekend laughing with friends is always a recipe for success. Throw in tea, cake and zip wires and you’re really looking at a winner…

Every so often there is nothing quite like leaving my partner with full control over the remote for the weekend whilst I jet off for some much needed female interaction. What better way to do so than by organising together my favourite ladies and heading to a luxurious spa hotel? Heaven. Once we arrived at The Legacy Botleigh Grange Hotel we set our things down in our beautiful rooms and headed down to try the hotel’s afternoon tea. Now, it might be that I don’t get out of the house enough, but when I was sat in front of a cup of tea, a tower of cakes and a glass of wine, it felt like life couldn't get much better! Full of tea and cake, it was time to see what the hotel’s spa had to offer. We donned our swimwear and headed to the beautiful Lakeside Spa, where we were each to have massage treatments. Firstly, we spent some time in the spa’s relaxing Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. This really helped to melt away any thoughts of the working week, and in no time I was ready for my Raindrop Massage - a wonderful experience during which warm essential oils are dripped along the spine, before being worked into your entire body. I came away from the spa feeling so refreshed; if I could afford myself the luxury, then I would have the same treatment at least once a week!

Day two had a different feel to it entirely.

Having spent a day doing nothing but pampering, it was time to get our hands dirty! Just ten minutes from the hotel is Itchen Valley, one of Britain’s great country parks. Far from enjoying a relaxing ramble, we decided to take the plunge and visit ‘Go Ape’, one of the many facilities across the country that allows you to get up close with nature by climbing and swinging in the trees.

Despite the surname, I am not the kind of person who feels comfortable hanging in trees. It took all my bravery to climb ladders, tightrope from tree to tree and zip wire my way into oblivion, but I am so happy I did! The experience was incredible, and was a completely different way of alleviating stress.

I had an amazing time during my weekend at the Legacy Botleigh Grange Hotel, and I am already doing my research for the next exciting weekend away!
