First up, we had a young writer/ artist, that was beginning to garner some interest around a character that had become a little
tired.
Yep, it was Frank Miller on Daredevil.
Great cover, huh? Miller was really creating, not the mythos of Daredevil, but rather the character of Matt Murdock. After all, Bruce Wayne is simply a front for Batman but Spider-Man is a disguise for Peter Parker. It’s subtle but hugely important.
We also have Phoenix make a return to the X-Men. How can that be when we all know she died in some classic episodes? Well, relax. It’s simply Kitty Pryde in a ‘costume’. We’d all agree bringing her back would be a terrible move. Erm….
Over at Marvel Team-Up, we have Spidey meeting Wolverine in a bit of a yawn-fest, whilst Jim Shooter writes another great Avengers tale.
Although you might struggle to believe it, it was actually Doug Moench
that
was the hottest writer of the time. His Moon Knight with Bill Sienkiewicz
and Master Kung-Fu with Rick Maygar were
staggeringly good. It’s a shame that there seems little interest in them these days, aside from Bill’s nigh- on Neal Adams art.
DC Comics began the return of the muck monster in Saga of the Swamp Thing – a title that paved the way for later Alan Moore greatness.
that…nothing really.
JLA and Teen Titans were decent enough. Flash, Green Lantern, All-Star Squadron and so on. All ok. Just nothing special.
Things were a lot better over in jolly old Blighty, where Judge Dredd in 2000AD was engaged in the epic Apocalypse War.
Over all, a mixed bag of comic fun.
