The kindergarten classes will also hold their End of the Year Celebration at 9 a.m. Wed., May 30 in the Multipurpose Room, where they will perform a variety of songs; all family members are invited to attend. Upcoming trips - Second-graders will visit Phoenix Theatre to see a showing of “Charlotte’s Web” May 11, while fifth- graders will head to Skateland May 14 for their year-end party. Bookworms - Sixth-graders visited Bookman’s Used Bookstore to experience how a real store operates and to shop for some great “new” used books.

Cheer champs – Basha High brought home another national championship recently when the Varsity Coed Cheer team earned their first-place national title in the American Championships Cheer and Dance National Event. According to team captain Mallory Smale, the team’s biggest challenge was organizing 36 people with very different schedules.


PRESTIGIOUS HONOR: Junior Kaitlyn Perry, the only high school student in Arizona to receive an internship with the Helios Scholars Program this year, will have the opportunity to assist in unraveling the genetic components of diabetes, neurological


disease and cancer, including conducting her own experiments for breast cancer research. Her findings will be presented July 27. Perry, who is in the top 10% of her class, hopes to become a biomedical engineer and work with stem-cell research. The paid eight- week summer internship in biomedical research is open to all Arizona high school, college and medical school students. Submitted photo

CTA-GOODMAN GATORS Shoe in – More than 1,000 pairs of shoes were collected during the Go- Getters’ shoe drive for the nonprofit organization Light Feet Project, which will distribute the children’s shoes to children in Africa and the Dominican Republic; adult shoes will go to Haiti and other third-world countries.
