3rd Annual SUP Luau Races!
On Saturday, May 5, 2012, the 3rd
Annual SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Luau Races will take place at the Bayfront Marina in downtown Naples from 12- 3pm. It’s a fun day for every age and all proceeds benefit the Special Olympics of Collier County. This charity event is organized by Matt Berman, co-owner of Noodles Italian Café & Sushi Bar, and every year more local businesses contribute via sponsorship packages and silent raffle donations. “The luau theme of this year’s SUP
races means a lot of grass skirts, straw hats, leis and Polynesian barbecue, and is a tribute to SUP’s Hawaiian roots,” says Berman. Last year the SUP races attracted more than 100 paddlers and created a family-friendly festival atmosphere while raising more than $30,000 for Special Olympics Collier County. Racers are asked to donate $25 which goes directly to the charity. Registration is permitted up to one hour
prior to your race although participants are encouraged to preregister to paddle at Noodles Italian Café or Shane’s Cabana Bar. If possible, paddlers are also asked to bring their own boards, although Naples Kiteboarding and True Water Sports will provide boards at no charge. Kuy Hoe He’e Nalu! To donate, learn more about local
volunteer opportunities, and stay current on upcoming athletic events provided by the Special Olympics of Collier County, please visit their website:

Naples Beach Brewery File this one under unexpected yet interesting... East Naples
is now home to a brewery! It’s been under construction for several months, and now Naples Beach Brewery is scheduled to open its doors this May. Located at 4110 Enterprise Ave. #217, the small, family-owned operation is a rarity in Collier and Lee Counties. Their mission is “
...to brew an enlightening variety of quality craft beers for the appreciative drinker.”
Four year-round beers with local influences, will be brewed here, and available, at least
initially, by draft at local bars and restaurants. Once officially open for business, owner Will Lawson plans to open the brewery to the public for tours of their custom built 55 gallon, 3 vessel system on Fridays and Saturdays. Until then, home-brewing supplies will be for sale, in addition to Naples Beach Brewery t-shirts, hats and other fun swag. Check out the Naples Beach Brewery’s website,
Facebook, and Twitter pages for updates and more info or call 239-330-5295. Cheers!
SwitchGig.com Connects Bands w/ Fans
Out-of-town bands often hit roadblocks when
attempting to book gigs. Why? The answer is really quite simple: they don’t have the fan base outside of their locale. To help solve that dilemma, Naples resident Jesse Lawson invented
SwitchGig.com, a new web-based Facebook app that not only makes it possible, but also relatively simple for touring bands to literally “switch gigs” with other bands in different towns. Join SwitchGig at the official launch party on
June 23 at Ale Mary’s Sports Bar, located at 16440 South Tamiami Trl in Fort Myers. Lawson’s former band, Smegma will headline the night during a free reunion show and free beer will be provided during their live performance, followed by a guitar raffle. To learn more about the app, participate in
SwitchGig’s beta launch, or to find out more about the party, visit

Teen Club?! We got excited for a minute
Yet Another
after hearing that the venue formerly known as Ultra, located at 15495 Tamiami Trail in North Naples, was reopening as Elevate Nightclub... until further research revealed that it’s actually Elevate Teen Club. Wow, if this trend continues,
the fake ID crowd will have more places to party than 21+. Judging by comments on their Facebook page, there seems to be some confusion - does Elevate have teen nights or is every night for teens?! At press time, messages left at the club had received no response. 239-285-9050
