News & Views Atul Kochhar to open Dubai restaurant

Michelin-starred Atul Kochhar is to open a fi ne-dining restaurant in the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai hotel, which is due to open towards the end of 2012. The restaurant will be called Rang Mahal, meaning palace full of colours, and will be based on a similar concept to his London restaurant, Benares.

Kochhar accepts that the ‘fresh and local’ philosophy he is famed for will not be easy to replicate in Dubai. However, he says, “The good thing about the UAE is that it is so close to India and we are able to give the food a real authentic twist. Also the UAE is known for its quality, especially in the Dubai market, so I can get things on the doorstep easily.”

Kochhar is already linked with two Zafran outlets in Dubai, one in the Marina and one in Mirdif City Centre, which has a focus on mid-range priced food. More outlets in the UAE are reportedly planned over the next year or so.
