A DEGREE OF BRILLIANCE

Davinder Kumar Anand, better known to most people as Gulu, the owner of the renowned Brilliant Restaurant in Southall, has been awarded an Honorary Masters Degree from the University of West London. The ceremony took place on Friday 30th March at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Syon Park.

Gulu’s achievement s well deserved. Not only does he own and run one of UK’s most successful Indian restaurants, which has been established for 37 years, but he is also a very active member in the local community. For example he is a local trustee at the Ram Mandir temple, a gover- nor at Featherstone School and the Sikh School in Hayes, a guest speaker and chef at the University of West London and is actively involved in training and education of students locally.

Vice Chancellor of the University of West London, Peter John, presented Gulu with his accolade and Professor David Foskett read out a citation speech which summed up his achievements. He said, “Davinder is a pillar of our local community, a role model for young people living in the area. A real example of how determination, belief, hard work and education can lead to a successful business career.“

An entrepreneur of our times Gulu’s latest project is work- ing with Ealing Authority to develop an old Manor House in Southall, tyurning it into a training restaurant, backed by Boris Johnson, Mayor of London.
