ATHLETICS
Spring Decathlon Starts Now
T
he 2011 Team Decathlon event was a one-week competition that began on
Monday, Oct. 31 and ran through Sunday, Nov. 6. As the name implies, this is a team event and offers an excellent opportunity to test one’s skills in preparation for the Spring Decathlon, which starts this week. The team decathlon differs from the Spring Decathlon in that it only lasted one week as opposed to the three-week duration of the Classic Spring Decathlon. There were 10 set events to be completed with a partner, including: rowing, station- ary bike, mile run, bench press, pull ups, vertical leap, the shuttle run, free throws, jump rope and the 50-yard swim. The event was open to individual teams, and each team member completes five of the 10 events for a total team score. The 2011 Team Decathlon had three MAC Athletic Committees competing, exercise and conditioning, athletic and decathlon. A number of individual teams competed. A few of those teams along with their team scores were as follows: Mike and Cassie Cook (father and daughter) with an overall team score of 8,654; Frank Sherwood and Terri Cook (friends) with an overall team score of 8,459; Daemon Anastas and Bob Masin (friends) with an overall team score of 8,808; Brett and Ryan Moshofsky (father and son) with an overall team score of 8,691; Joe and Chris Tennant (father and son) with an over- all team score of 8,558; Barry and Janet Edwards (husband and wife) with an over- all team score of 8,510; Dianne Wustrack and Monty Button (female/male staff) overall team score of 8498, Jon Phelps and Angela Knight (staff) overall team score of 8,681; Lyndsey and Jamie Finn (husband and wife) overall team score of 8,764; Amy Tennant and Dena Hostkotte (friends) overall team score of 8,640; and Amy Richter and Britt Weiler (friends) overall team score of 8,676. There was also a free Team Decathlon pizza, beer and wine party held in November for all of those that par- ticipated in the event to celebrate their accomplishments.
