Early Birds Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

I

t’s time for delighting in May flowers and Cinco de Mayo. On Friday, May 4 the Early Birds offer Mexican treats and music at the Salmon Springs Fountain. Cinco de Mayo com- memorates the victory of the Mexican army against the bigger and better equipped French army in 1862 – a victory that prevented France from helping the Confederates during our Civil War. The festivities also celebrate Mexican pride and culture. Everyone is welcome to come exercise and enjoy the holiday food and drinks between 5:45 and 6:45 a.m. at Waterfront Park near the foot of Salmon Street.

Another cause for celebration is the 2011 Committee of the Year Award for the Early Bird Committee. Finally, many thanks to all the MAC members who donated to the household goods drive for Community Warehouse in April. Hurrah for all these victories!
